Shock oil is the easiest and cheapest suspension adjustment. Changing oil weight dramatically alters how the car responds to bumps, corners, and jumps.

How Shock Oil Works
Silicone oil flows through piston holes inside the shock body. Thicker oil resists flow, slowing suspension movement. Thinner oil flows easily, allowing faster travel. Common weights range from 20wt (very thin) to 60wt (very thick).
Thinner Oil (20-30wt)
Fast suspension travel keeps tires in contact on rough, bumpy tracks. The trade-off is less stability in corners and during braking. Cars bottom out more easily on big jumps.
Thicker Oil (40-60wt)
Firmer, more planted feel. Resists body roll in corners, maintains level attitude under braking. On rough tracks, it makes the car harsh and bouncy because suspension cannot react quickly to small bumps.
Matching Oil to Conditions
Smooth tracks: 35-40wt. Rough tracks: 25-30wt. Mixed conditions: 30-35wt as a compromise.
Front vs Rear
Thicker rear oil creates oversteer tendency. Thicker front oil creates understeer. Most cars benefit from one weight grade heavier in the rear.
How to Change
Remove shock, unscrew cap, drain old oil, clean with rubbing alcohol, fill with new oil, cycle piston to remove air bubbles, top off, screw cap on with shaft fully extended. Always change in matching sets.
