方法 to Set Gear Mesh on an RC Car

日本語

Gear mesh is the spacing between pinion and spur gear. Too tight and gears bind, overheat, and strip. Too loose and they skip under load.

The Paper Method

Loosen the motor mount screws. Place a sheet of printer paper between pinion and spur gear. Push the motor toward the spur until the paper is pinched between teeth. Tighten motor mount screws. Remove the paper. The gap left by the paper thickness provides ideal spacing.

The Sound Test

Spin the spur gear by hand. It should rotate smoothly with minimal noise. Run the car on a stand for ten seconds. Listen for clicking or grinding. Check gear temperatures. Warm is acceptable. Hot means too tight.

After Crashes

Hard impacts can shift motor position. Check mesh after significant crashes before driving again.

Gear Lubrication

A small amount of silicone-based lubricant on spur gear teeth reduces friction. Apply sparingly. Excess attracts dirt. Do not use petroleum-based lubricants on plastic gears.

When to Replace

Inspect spur gear teeth regularly. Replace when rounded, chipped, or visibly worn. Running a worn spur damages the more expensive metal pinion.
